More Than a Hunt: What's New at Lazy J Sporting Club This Season

More Than a Hunt: What's New at Lazy J Sporting Club This Season

Pheasant hunting has always been the heartbeat of Lazy J Sporting Club...and it still is. But this season, we've built more ways than ever to fill your days in the field, at the range, and around the table.

The Signature Package, Refined
Our bread and butter is still the four-day signature package: arrive Wednesday evening, hunt Thursday through Saturday, head home Sunday morning. It's the most popular option for a reason: it gives your group real time in the field without feeling rushed.

This year, we've added three-day, two-day, and one-day hunting options for groups with tighter schedules, and we've introduced something guests are already loving: AM and PM hunt blocks. Historically, once you reached your limit, the hunting day was over, often by 11 a.m. Now, guests can hunt in the morning, come in for a chef-prepared lunch, and head back out in the afternoon for sporting clays, trap, or another hunt block. It's a small change that's made a big difference in how much guests get to do each day.

New This Year: Dove Season
For the first time, Lazy J is offering dove hunting alongside pheasant, running from September 1 through November 16. Since our preserve season also opens September 1, guests who come in early can hunt both at the height of the season, and the dove numbers on our property have been, frankly, kind of ridiculous.

What a Hunt Day Actually Looks Like
Every hunt starts with a chef-prepared breakfast, followed by a quick safety walkthrough with our Outdoor Ops team. From there, guides take your group out to a hunting plot, handle the dog work, and run the hunt start to finish. We take care of licensing, transportation once you land, gun rentals, and shells...all you have to do is show up ready to shoot.

Beyond pheasant and dove, guests have access to a full ten-station sporting clays course and traditional trap, amenities that, frankly, are still an underused gem even among regulars.

A New Menu + New Cocktails
Chef Adam's arrival this year kicked off a complete overhaul of the food program, now built around tiered menus for lunch, supper, and dinner. Alongside that, our leadership team came together to curate a brand-new signature cocktail menu for the season, tested first at our monthly socials, including a standout collaboration with a local honey producer and brewery that sold out fast.

Looking Ahead: Long-Range Shooting
Lazy J already hosts the ELRSO (Extreme Long Range Shooting Optics) event each July, where competitive shooters take aim at targets from 500 yards out to two full miles — yes, two miles, with nearly nine seconds of bullet flight time. We're now working on building an in-house long-range shooting program so locals and first-timers can get in on the action outside of the annual event.

Come Build Your Own Hunt
Whether you're bringing a group of buddies for the full four-day signature experience or just want an afternoon of sporting clays, our team handles every detail so you can focus on the hunt.
